# NWT and Nunavut construction safety law, in plain language.

## The law

Each territory, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, has its own Safety Act. Together they set the duties and the framework for workplace safety on construction sites in both territories. The [Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission](https://www.wscc.nt.ca/) publishes the current text and guidance.

## Who enforces it

The [Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC)](https://www.wscc.nt.ca/) enforces workplace safety in both the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The WSCC is consolidated: it administers both safety and workers compensation, and it is one body covering two separate jurisdictions.

## Workers compensation and clearances

Contractors generally must register with the province's workers compensation board, and general contractors commonly require a clearance letter before a sub mobilizes.
