# Nameplate Pay. Your customers pay online, and the money lands in your own account.

**Nameplate Pay is Blue Crane Works' online payments product for trades and contractors in Hamilton, Ontario.** Customers pay an invoice online by credit or debit card, through Stripe's own secure payment page, under the company's name. The money goes into the company's own Stripe account, never through Blue Crane: Stripe's own documentation says a payment made this way [appears as a charge on the connected account](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/direct-charges), the business's, not the platform's. Blue Crane takes no cut of it. Both sides get a receipt with the paid invoice attached. It runs today in Jackman Mechanical's app, and it is part of every [Nameplate](https://bluecraneworks.ca/solutions/custom-applications.html) app we build.

## The grind

- Customers who would pay today, if they could pay by card

- Chasing cheques and e-Transfers a week after the job

- A card machine and a separate app that know nothing about the invoice

- Payment tools whose name the customer has never heard of

- Typing every payment into the books by hand

## Where is it running today?

**In Jackman Mechanical's app.**
The company went through Stripe's own sign-up from a button in its app, with its real details and
its bank, and card payments are switched on. Stripe checked the business, not us: we never see the
bank details. From then on, every invoice the company sends can be paid online by card, and the paid
invoice and receipt go out by themselves.

1. **The invoice goes out** from the app, with a link to pay it.

2. **The customer pays** on Stripe's secure payment page, which carries your company's name: Stripe's documentation for this kind of charge says [the connected account's branding is used in Checkout](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/direct-charges).

3. **The app marks it paid**, and sends the customer and you a receipt with the paid invoice attached.

4. **Stripe pays out** to your bank, on the schedule you set in your own Stripe dashboard.

## How does each way of paying reach the invoice?

**Every payment ends up on the invoice it pays, whichever way it came in.** Cards
are recorded by themselves; an e-Transfer is matched from its notice; cash and cheques take one tap.

| How the customer pays | Where the money goes | How the invoice is marked paid |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Credit or debit card, online | Your own Stripe account, then your bank | By itself, the moment Stripe confirms the payment, with a receipt to both sides |
| Interac e-Transfer | Straight to your bank account | The e-Transfer notice in your email is offered as a one-tap match to the right invoice |
| Cheque or cash | Wherever you deposit it | One tap in the app, or say it: "Maria paid by cheque" |

## What we build

**Running today: card payments on your invoices**Credit and debit cards on Stripe's own hosted payment page, which also offers phone wallets such as Apple Pay where the customer's phone has one. The invoice goes out by email and text with its pay link. Live in Jackman Mechanical's app.

**Running today: your own Stripe account**The payments are yours, in an account in your company's name, with Stripe's full dashboard for payouts, refunds and disputes. We set it up; you own it. If you ever leave us, the account stays yours.

**Running today: receipts both ways**The customer gets a receipt with the paid invoice attached, and so do you. A paid-in-full receipt can carry your Google review link.

**Running today: e-Transfers lined up**An e-Transfer notice is matched to the invoice it pays, for you to confirm, so cards and e-Transfers end up in the same place.

**Running today: card numbers never touch us**Customers type their card on Stripe's own payment page. The card number never reaches your app or our servers, which keeps the hard part of card security with Stripe.

**Set up for your business: deposits and the rest**Deposits before a job starts, and the payments flowing into QuickBooks. Scoped in writing for your company.

## What it costs

## What about Stripe's fees?

**Stripe charges its own processing fee on each payment, straight to your
Stripe account; Blue Crane takes nothing on top.** Stripe's current Canadian rates are on
[Stripe's pricing page](https://stripe.com/en-ca/pricing). What we charge is
for building it into your app, quoted in writing, and it sits on the same monthly bill as the app.

## Is this Stripe, or is it yours?

Both, on purpose. Stripe moves the money and holds the card security, because that
is a job for a bank-grade company, not for us: Stripe is [certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1](https://docs.stripe.com/security), which it describes as the most stringent level in the payments
industry, and its hosted page supports [Apple Pay with no additional configuration](https://docs.stripe.com/apple-pay). Blue Crane builds it into your app so it knows about your
invoices, your customers and your receipts, and your customers see your company's name, not ours. A
payment tool bolted on beside your app cannot do that.

## Where does a paid invoice start?

**Often with a question someone asked an assistant.** On Jackman
Mechanical's [website](https://bluecraneworks.ca/solutions/websites.html), built so Google, ChatGPT and Copilot can read
it, a customer or the assistant they asked sends a request; it lands in the app, becomes an estimate,
a booked job and an invoice, and Nameplate Pay closes it with a card payment. One system, from the
question to the money.

## Do I need a Nameplate app?

It is built for one: the payment belongs to an invoice, and the invoice lives in your
[Nameplate app](https://bluecraneworks.ca/solutions/custom-applications.html). If you only have a
[website](https://bluecraneworks.ca/solutions/websites.html) with us and want a simple way to take a deposit online,
ask on the call and we will tell you plainly whether a Stripe payment link on its own would do.

## What it replaces

- A card machine that knows nothing about the invoice

- Waiting a week for a cheque

- Matching payments to invoices by hand

- A payment page with someone else's name on it

## Who it is for

Trades and service companies that send invoices and would rather be paid the same day: plumbers, heating and electrical shops, renovators, landscapers and cleaners. Available in Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown, Burlington, Grimsby and Brantford, and remotely anywhere in Ontario.

## What week one looks like

1. A call: how customers pay you today, deposits or not, and where the money should land.

2. We switch it on in your app, and you tap Set up card payments to go through Stripe's own sign-up with your details and your bank.

3. We send a real invoice through end to end with you, so you see exactly what your customer sees.

4. Then every invoice you send can be paid online.
