Employee portal and time clockWhat does a roofing crew see on their phone, and how do their hours reach payroll?
In the Blue Crane Roofing Division, each crew member signs in on their own phone and sees My day: today's roofs with directions, who leads, the office's number, and a clock that marks the shop, the drive and the site. The office sees who is in, fixes a missed punch with the history kept, and downloads the pay period's hours for payroll. Blue Crane Works builds it in Hamilton, Ontario, with no fee per crew member.

How does a crew member get into the app?
The office adds them under Personnel with their email and taps Give the app. On the sign-in screen they choose Set up my crew login, get a six-digit code at that email, and pick their name and password. No app store account, no shared login on the office tablet.
What is on a roofer's My day screen?
The day, in the order it happens. Start my day at the shop or at the job, Leaving for the job, I'm at the job, Back at the shop, End my day with lunch. Below it, today's roofs with directions, who leads and a button to call the lead, the next 30 days, their crew, a way to ask for time off, and the office's number.
What is not there matters as much. Crew members never see prices or the customer's phone number. Their location is recorded only when they tap, and only after they have said yes to it once.
How do the hours become payroll?
Hours shows each person's week, split into drive time and site time, with overtime past your limit marked. Pay periods run one or two weeks, fixed from the first day you set. The office can fix a day someone forgot to clock out, and the history of the change is kept. At the end of the period, download the hours as a spreadsheet for your payroll company or your bookkeeper.
The overtime limit starts at Ontario's general rule. Under the Employment Standards Act, "overtime begins after they have worked 44 hours in a work week" and "overtime pay is 1½ times the employee's regular rate of pay" (Ontario's guide to overtime pay, updated 5 February 2026). The same guide allows a written averaging agreement over two to four weeks. Some workers and industries have different rules, so the limit is a setting your bookkeeper confirms, not a law the app decides.
| Screen | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Crew today | Who is in, Not in yet first, and the day's marks: sick, called in, rained out, sent home, excused, no show |
| Hours | The pay period per person, drive and site time, overtime, fixes with history, download for payroll |
| Personnel | A file per person: pay, papers, tickets and their expiry, and a sealed SIN only the owner opens |
| Crews by job | Who is on which roof each day, built from the dispatch board |
Can the app keep track of working at heights tickets?
Yes. Each person's file keeps their tickets with the date they expire. For roofers the one that matters most is working at heights: on an Ontario construction project, workers who use fall protection must complete approved training, and the province states that it "is valid for 3 years after the successful completion of an approved program," after which a refresher keeps it valid for another three (Ontario's working at heights training page, updated 21 April 2026). Put the date in once and the expiry is on the file before the crew is booked.
Does adding crew members cost more?
No. The Roofing Division is one price for the company. Ten roofers or forty, the bill is the same, which is the opposite of how most crew apps are priced. See what it costs, and how the crew app connects to the dispatch board.
